Hello, my name is Mingwan. I would talk about Gojong, the 26th king of Joseon. Gojong was a king from the Joseon Dynasty. He lived in the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Before him, the king was Cheoljong, but he had no children. The Andong Kim clan was trying to gain more power from the king. However, Gojong¡¯s father and a distant relative of the king named Heungson Daewongun, rose to power. Because he was too old, he made 12 year old Gojong become king. Then, Heungson Daewongun was allowed to command the others to follow his orders for Gojong. However, ten years later, he wanted to rule by himself. Luckily, he got independence from his father and ruled over Joseon. He wanted his country to be strong, so he changed the name Joseon into the Daehan Empire. However, despite emperor Gojong¡¯s great efforts, the Japanese took over Korea and kicked Gojong out of his throne. After that, he lived in Deoksugung, but one day, he got poisoned by the Japanese in his sleep. Soon, the Japanese took over the land completely after the death in 1909. I was very interested in Gojong because he had a tragic life from becoming a king when he was twelve to dying from poison. I wish I would never have that life like Gojong.
