Hello everyone~ My name is Ellie. Today, I went to 운현궁. 운현궁 was the home of 흥선대원군, who is the father of King 고종. King 고종 lived in 운현궁 until he became 12 years old because he became king at that age. King 고종 was able to be the king of 조선 (대한제국) even though he was not the son of 철종 because 철종 did not have any sons. After 고종 became king, he married queen 명성, who was called 명성황후 after. Unfortunately, she was assasinated by Japan because Japan did not like her political acts where she tried to make a good relationship between Korea and Russia. Now, I will explain about 운현궁. 운현궁 has many buildings in it. First, there is 수직사. 수직사 is the building where the servants and the guards lived. Second, there is 노안당. 노안당 is a building where 흥선대원군 used the most. It is like a 사랑채. Third, there is 노락당. 노락당 is the building where the women usually lived. King 고종 and queen 명성 married in this place. Also, it is the biggest building in 운현궁. Fourth, there is 이로당. 이로당 was built for 흥선대원군's wife, who could not use 노락당 after king 고종 and queen 명성 married. Lastly, there is 온돌 heating system. 온돌 heating system uses the warm air made from the fire hold. After the air rotates under the floor, it goes out through the chimney. Thank you for listening~~ |
