Namsan Hanok Village is a rebuilt model of tilted roof houses in Joseon Dynasty. There was 5 rebuilt houses, which is house of Kim Chunyeong, House of Min Yeonghwi, House of Yoon Taekyoung, etc.

First of all, I will explain about how to separate the zone of tilted roof houses. There is 3 zones, which is sarangchae, anchae, and hangrangchae.

Sarangchae is the men's living place. Men met fuests and also discussed political issues. They also slept here, too. I found the term - bamboo wife - very interesting. Bamboo wife is a thing that men hug while sleeping, especially in summertime, because the bamboo wife could cool down people's temperature.

Anchae is the women's living place. It was located very close to kitchen and was usually in the innermost part of the house. This is related to confucianism.

Lastly, hangrangchae is the servants' living place, so hangrangchae could only be seen in a noblemen's house.it is divided into various small rooms, and the design of the room is more simple.

I'll explain more about jangdokdae, which is a traditional pot where Koreans put kimchi, soybean paste, etc. It is located near the kitchen. I heard a lot about gangdokdae, but I found this fact very interesting. Two kind of cly are used to make jangdokdae. One is rough and one is very smooth. When they mix together, it naturally makes a little hole. This hole allows wind to come in, but not dirt or water. And good ventilation helps with fermentation.

Going to Namsan Hanok Village helped my knowledge of how people lived in Joseon Dynasty. I really enjoyed the visit. And if I am given the chance to, I would really like to know ore about the middle and lower class's life.
