Hello, my name is Mingwan, and I visited the Gyeonghuigung Palace in Seoul. Today, I would like to talk about the Seoam Rock in the palace.
The Seoam Rock was a large, flat rock that looked like a toppled-over stele. It was located inside the palace, not far from the throne hall of the Gyeonghuigung palace. Under the rock, there was a natural water spring with water bubbling up, and many streams of water flowed down a special waterway to the big palace. I¡¯ve heard that Gwanghaegun built this palace near this rock after the Japanese Invasion in 1592 because of the myth of Seoam Rock. It was said that whoever was near the rock would have the power to become a king. Then, Gwanghaegun must have received the power of the rock, because Gwanghaegun became the 15th king of Joseon!
I was very fascinated by this unique rock, and I think I would like to visit Seoam Rock again. I also want to find out if the rock still has some power left and can bring me luck, as the myth says!
