Today I went to Unhyeon Palace. Unhyeon Palace was Heungsoun Daewongun¡¯s personal house. After visiting there, I wrote about Heungsoun Daewongun and his house.

* About Heungsoun Daewongun *

  Heungsoun Daewongun was a royal family of the Joseon dynasty, but he pretended to be crazy and foolish. The time Sunjo was the king of Joseon, actually many royal families and retainers ruled over Joseon. If somebody threatens their power, they murdered him(or her). For the reason Heungsoun Daewongun did like that and he could survive.

  As years passed by, the 25th king Cheljong died without a son. The queen adopted the boy who was Heungsoun Daewongun¡¯s second son and he became king Gojong, so Heungsoun Daewongun could have absolute power.

* About Heungsoun Daewongun¡¯s house - Unhyeon Palace *

  According to Joseon¡¯s custom, people built a house separated into Hanglangchae, Anchae and Sarangchae. In those places servants, noble women and men each lived.

  Unhyeon Palace had the structure like that. First, Sujiksa is the Henglangchae where the servants lived. Second, Norakdang is the Anchae where noble women lived. Lastly, Noandang is the Sarangchae where noble men lived. 

 There was Irodang also. After king Gojong and Myoungsung queen got married, Heungsoun Daewongun and his family lived there because, they couldn¡¯t stay in the Noandang anymore.

  I could imagine Heungsoun Daewongun¡¯s power in politics and his wealthness from Unhyeon Palace.
