Today, we went to Namsan Han-Ok Village. We could see the variety types of traditional houses. I am writing about the Han-Ok and old many stuffs that our ancestors used. About Han-Ok The Han-Ok is a Korean traditional type of house. In the countryside, people still live there. The Han-Ok may be divided into two kinds. The first one is the tiled roof house. The wealthy people, Yangban, lived there. It is larger than the thatched roof house in which the ordinary people, Pyongmin, lived. It is divided into the Sarangchae, the Anchae, the Hanrangchae, the storage and the shrine. The man lived mainly in the Sarangchae while the woman lived in mainly in the Anchae. In other words, the man and the woman live in the different building. The servant or the lower people used the Hanrangchae. The storage was used in keeping stuffs and the Shrine was a place for praying their ancestors. The thatched roof house was for the ordinary people. They lived in a one-room building which was very small and simple. Also it was very easy to move it. About Yangban¡¯s Stuff The Yangbans had more stuffs than the ordinary people. They had special stuffs for studying, such as brush, paper, ink and ink stone called as Mun-bang-sa-woo which means 4 friends of Pen compared with Sword. They were used in not only writing a book, but also drawing a picture. I thought that the Han-Ok would be very old and useless. However, after visiting here, I change my mind that Han-Ok is very scientific result and learn our ancestor had left a lot of good stuffs.
