Today we went to Changgyeonggung Palace. Hunghwamun is the main gate of Changgyeonggung palace. They had civil service exam site in Haminjeong. Hwanggyeongjeon is the King's living quarters. Myungjeongjeon, Munjeongjeon, and Sungmundang are in the outer palace of the Changgyeonggung where the official events were held. Kyungchunjeon, Hwankyungjeon, Yanghwadang, and Tongmyungjeon are inner palace where the King, Queen and the royal families live.
The palaces in Changgyeonggung Palace were painted with Dancheong. Dancheong is the colorful Korean-styled decorations. It was beautiful and unique. It reminds me of Hanbok, Korean traditional clothes. Japsang is small figures on the roof of the palaces. It's like the characters in the book of 'the travel to the west.'
Tongmyungjeon is the palace for Queen. I don't think I've seen Yongmaru on the roof of Tongmyungjeon differently from the other palaces.
Prince Sado was killed in a rice chest. It was such a tragic event in our history. There are a lot to learn from Changgyeonggung. |
