Today I went Changgyeonggung Palace. Changgyeonggung was bulit by King 성종 for his mother and grandmother. This palace was burned down on 1592(임진왜란) and was rebulit in 1616.
I want to talk about to Changgyeonggung's behind stories.
In Changgyeonggung, Palace King 숙종's wife Lady Jang was killed in here that's why she cursed the Queen Inhyeon and Crown Prince Sado was death in a rice chest.
Like this, Changgyeonggung has sad stories but Changgyeonggung is one of the beautiful palace in Korea.
Which were colonies of Japan, changed this palace into a zoo. Japan thought it might be degraded Joseon Dynasty.
After Indenpendence, we was restored it in 1984.
Let's explain to Changgyeonggung structure.
The outer palace has 명정전, 문정전 and 숭문당. It was used for official work and events. Next to, the Inner palace has 경춘정, 화경전, 양화당 and 퉁명전. It was used for daily life of the Royal family. Do you know Changgyeonggung's main gate? The answer is Honghwamun. It is really splendid and only one main gate to eastward.
And 옥천교 is a stone bridge and it has goblin carving. People believe goblin carving was to protect the palace from evil spirits coming.
Dancheong is the colorful Korean-Styled decorations that are used on a roofing tile. Dancheong consists of five colors>>Red-fire, Black-water, Green-wood, white-metal and yellow-earth. This five colors represent which make up the universe.
Changgyeonggung has some sad history so I feel sad. But I was very touched this palace. It could be have many other stories.So I want to know more about Changgyeonggung.
