Gyeongungung Palace Gyongungung Palace is a very important palace which was the first palace to contain some western style buildings. We went to Gyeongungung today and learned many thing about Gyeongungung and studied about Gyeongungung's details. I noticed that Gyeongungung was a very special and unique palace which had some wonderful buildings and gates. Gyeongungung Palace was the private house of King Seongjong(성종)'s brother, also known as Prince Wolsan(월산대군). However, it became the Main Palace of the Joseon Dynasty after the Japanese war(임진왜란). King Gwanghaegun(광해군) live here too, but moved to Changeokgung(창덕궁) later. Also, King Gojong(고종) moved to here in 1897 because he didn't want to go to Gyeongbokgung(경복궁) which was the place that his wife(명성황후) had died. There are many beautiful builings in Gyeongungung. The main gate of Gyeongungung Palace is the Daehanmun(대한문). Junghwajun(중화전), which is the most important building located in the middle was the place for official events. It was interesting to see the real place where there were official events during the Joeson Dynasty. My favorite building was Seokjojeon(석조전) which was a western style stone building. It looked quite different from other buildings. I liked the water fountain in the front of the building too. Overall, Gyeongunggung was a wonderful place with unique and beautiful buildings. I personally think that it is a very special place because some kings lived here including Gojong(고종). I wish to visit here agian and learn more about the meanings of the buildings. |
