Hello, my name is Yeriel and today we went to Gyeongungung. The original name of this palace is Gyeongungung. But the name changed by Japanese so now it is Deoksugung. In this palace there is a first western styled building. This palace was not the main palace before. But after the imjin invasion which happened at 1592, the main palace changed to this palace Gyeongungung.

 First, on this buildings there are Japsang. These are the small figures on the roof. I will tell you the characters. The first animal on the roof is the monkey which is the Sonogong. The second animal is the pig Jeopalgye. And the water ghost is saoieong. These characters are from the Chinese novel, the journey to the west. The main gate of this palace is Daehanmun. Actually the main gate was Inwhamun. Also there is Hamabi. Hamabi has to be outside the palace. But of making the road there was no more place to put hamabi so the Hamabi came into the palace. The most important building of this palace is Junghwajeon.They did some official events here. In here there is a throne. And at the back of the throne there is a folding screen which is the Irwol-obongbyeong. I¡¯ll tell you the meaning of the painting. The sun means the king. Moon means the queen, and the five mountain means the Joseon land. There is a water and this represents the common-people. Lastly the pine tree represents the faithful officials.

 Second I¡¯ll tell you of some sad stories at Gyeongungung. First the Inmok, queen mother was locked in the Seokeodanf of King Gwanghaegun. The second story starts at Hamnyeongjeon. This room is there king Gojong¡¯s sleeping room. But he was dead at this place.

 As I said at the first, this palace has the first western styled building. I¡¯ll tell you the 3western styled building. First it is Deokhonjeon. This is a reception for foreign guests. It is decorated with western style. Like curtains. Next is Jeonggwangheon. This place is the relaxation place for Gojong. It has both Korean and western styled designs. It was the Korea¡¯s first coffee drinking place. The last place is Seokjojeon. This building is all designed with western style. It was used for many things.

 The last thing that I will tell you is about the Daehanjarguk. IN 1897, the king Gojong changed dynasty to empire and he became emperor. But Daehan emperor existed only for 13 years which is from 1897 to 1910. How to know that this world is empire is that at demue there is a letter mansae. And the phoenix became dragon to represent the king.
