Do you know the timeline between the Ice Age to the Balhae? We visited National Museum of Korea today. Korea peninsula is placed between China and Japan.
First thing we saw was the Ice Age. Ice Age was 3 million years ago and people usually lived in caves. Plus, the sea level was lower than nowadays. Like the Ice Age was the first period, hand axe was the first tool that people used. It was used to hunt animals. Nextly, we talked about Neolithic Period. People used to build houses called "pit house". They lived near the sea or fresh water. They usually fished and farmed. Unlike the Ice Age, which there weren't enough food to store, through the Neolithic Period, food became easier and easier to get. Then, what do you think they made for the solution of this problem? It was the Comb-Pattern Pottery. It is used to store foods. The pattern was there to make it not slippery, and to show that its their tribe's pottery. Also, the bottom part is sharp to make it infix to the soil. In the present days, scientists realized that they made comb-pattern pottery and also they ate abalone too. Then, what happened in the bronze age? Third of all, in the bronze age, people made bronze daggers instead of stone knives. The bronze daggers were different from China. Korean daggers had a curve, but China made the daggers straight.
After a long time, Gojoseon was established by Dan gun. Gojoseon was the first kingdom in Korean peninsula. Then, there were the three kingdoms. First was Goguryeo. Jumong, famous for archery, established Goguryeo in 37 B.C. The legend says that he was born from an egg. Goguryeo was the most powerful nation in the fifth century. Secondly, Baekje was established by Onjo, which was son of Jumong. In this process, there is a story too. When Jumong decided to make Yuri, which was not a son of So-Seo-No wife. So, So-Seo-No went towards another land with her sons Bi-Riu, and Onjo. Onjo decided to be on the land which in nowadays, near the Han River. On the other hand, Bi-Riu decided to be on the land which is In-Cheon. Han River had lots of foods, but In Cheon was not a good place to live. So, Bi-Riu felt guiltiness that he suicide. The people that lived in Incheon came to Onjo and ask him to accept them. So, Onjo named the land Baekje. Baekje was very friendly with Japan, so they exported a lot of things, also monks too. One of the best art was the Bronze Burner of Baekje. The top phoenix meant the sky, mountain and plants were paradise, dragon was the sea. Gaya was a small kingdom which disappeared soon. But, their iron-making skills were professional. Lastly, Parkhyeokgeose establised Silla. He was also born out of egg. Finally, Silla unified the Three Kingdoms and were called the unified Silla.
It was a time to know better that what I saw at the book. I also learned how dolmens were made. It was a meaningful time to look around the museum.
