Hello? My name is Rachel. Today, we went to Sungkyunkwan, the royal university of Joseon Dynasty. Today was my first class so I was very excited. Sungkyunkwan can be divided into two areas. The shrine area and the school area. At the shrine area there are Daeseongjeon in the middle, Dongmu and Seomu at both right and left side. Daeseongjeon is the place where they keep the spirit tablets of Confucius and the great confucian scholars. Dongmu ans Seomu are the secondary shrines of Sungkyunkwan. There are some memorial tablets of confucian scholars in here. In front of Daeseongjeon, there are two thuja trees. the one has 3 branches and the other one has 5 branches. It means the three confucian guides and the five confucian realationships. At school area there are Myeongryundang in the middle, Dongjae and Seojae in both right and left side. Myeongryundang is the place where the students study and take tests. Dongjae and Seojae is the dormitory of the students. In front of Myeongryundang, there are two 500 year old gingko trees. It was planted because Confucius taught his desciples under gingko trees. So the ancient Korean sages planted gingko trees at the place who studied Confucianism. I am glad to learn much about Sungkyunkwan. It was very fun and I hope you will enjoy here.
