I learned a lot about Sungkyunkwan today. I was very tired of the heat but I guess today's weather was better than the days of last week. The last time I went to Sungkyunkwan, I wasn't doing the Mariestory course. so I learned new things about Sungkyunkwan. First, I will write(talk) about the Munmyo. In the front of Sungkyunkwan, there is the Tangpyeongbi and Hamabi. Tangpyeongbi was made to ask that the Seoin and Dongin to not fight and be good officials of Joseon. Hamabi was made to ask the people to get off from their horses and sedan chairs and walk from that point. The main gate for Munmyo was Sinsammun. The central gate was for the spirits and the right was for the king and the left was for the crown prince. Inside Munmyo, there is Daeseongjeon, Seomu, and Dongmu. Daeseongjeon is a shrine where the spirit tablet of Confucius is kept. The trees in front of Daeseongjeon was interesting. One tree had 3 branches and the other one had 5 branches. They say these two trees represented Confucian guides called Samgangoryun. Dongmu and Seomu was a secondary shrine. It kept the spirit tablets for the disciples of Confucius, scholars from China, and scholars for Joseon. The next part is Sungkyunkwan. In Sungkyunkwan, there is Myeongryundang, Dongjae, and Seojae. Myeongryundang is a main hall used when they had big events or lessons. They had to take tests every day, every 10 days, every month, and every year. Dongjae and Seojae was the dormitory for students who studied in Sungkyunkwan. The rooms in Seojae was bigger than the ones in Dongjae because the higher ranked students lived there. The drum in front of Dongjae was for waking up and other things. If the drum is heard one time, the students had to dress up. The second time, It was time for them to dress up. The third time was the time to go to the cafeteria for breakfast. I was glad that I can talk about most of Sungkyunkwan and I am looking forward to going to Changgyeonggung Palace tomorrow. The weather report says tomorrow will be 31¡É. So I guess tomorrow is going to be another tiring day.
