Hi my name is Yu Min Kim and I will tell you about Korea under Japanese rule- Independence gate. First the independence gate. The independence gate was modeled after the ' Arch of Triumph' in Paris. The independence gate was built in 1896 and is located next to the Seodaemun prison because the Japanese did not want Koreans to think about independence and the word 'independence gate' is written backwards. And this is because the characters of the Joseon Dynasty were read backwards. For conclusion, I did not know that the independence gate was modeled after a gate in Paris. And I didn't know that the Japanese built Seodaemun Prison next to the independence gate on purpose and when I found out about it, I was very shocked. Thank you for listening to my presentation. |
