What a cold day! I went to Namsan Hanok Village. This is located in downtown Seoul. This village shows various shapes of tiled roof houses during the Joseon Dynasty. There are 5 Hanoks. This Hanok made of white clay. That building harmonize with nature like a wood door, floor and column. I was impressed house of Min yeonghwi, Jukbuin and Jangdokdae places. Min yeonghwi was the nephew of Empress Myeongseong. This place was one of the eight grandest houses of Seoul. I think he was very rich man. Also he was founder of Cheonil bank and Whimoon School. In the Sarangchae, you can see the Jukbuin. Not a real wife but a bamboo wife. Juk means bamboo, Buin means wife so it is bamboo wife. It is a pillow. You can cool to hug while sleeping in summer. You can see the big brown jar in Korea. It is called Jangdokdae. We can see easily Jangdokdae in Hanok. Jangdokdae is a container used for storing food like kimchi, soybean souce. It has tiny hole because water or dirt can't come through the holes but air can come so air helping with fermentation and storage. You know Kimchi? Kimchi put in here during the winter. Wisdom of Our ancestors I think. I think old houses (Hanok) is great to learn about living life at that time. You can see three Hanok villages in Korea that is Namsan Hanok, Bukchon Hanok and Jeonju Hanok. I wish you go there.
