Today we went to Namsan Hanok Villlage.
There were 5 amazing hanoks in total. To me, Kim Chunyeong¡¯s house was the most
interesting one. He was the head of the royal guards so it means he was a nobleman,
but unlike other noblemens, he was very humble and his house wasn¡¯t huge. He
must be role model for other noblemens. His house was not surrounded by a wall
or a fence. This is why the wall of the house is very thick and strong. I think
his house is much stronger because of the white clay that was used as glue. The
white clay is cement for today. It made the house safe. However, I think it
would be better if the color of it is not white but the same color with the
tiled roof.
Another interesting thing is a Jukbuin. ¡®Juk¡¯
menas bamboo and ¡®buin¡¯ means wife, so it is a bamboo wife. It is not someone¡¯s
real-life wife but just a pillow to hug while sleeping to cool their body in
summer. The funny part is that because they consider it as their real-wife, so
no one can use it except him. This is because of Confucianism. But the sad part
is that there was a sexual discrimination. Womens were not able to use it.
It was a precious opportunity to visit
Namsan Hanok Village. Thanks to this visit, now I know how the noblemens of
Joseon dynasty lived.
