In the past, people lived in many different kinds of houses. For example they lived in the palace, tiled-roof house, thatched-roof house, a temple and so on. Namsan Hanok Village has various types of tiled-roof houses that were moved from somewhere else. I could see main 5 hanoks there.

First hanok that I saw was the house of Lee seung up. He was a wood carpenter and in the middle class. However since he was in charge of rebuilding the Gyeongbok gung and the class at that time was shaken he could build his house bigger than any other middle class's house. The second hanok was the house of Kim Chunyeong. He was a chief of the royal guard calld 5À§Àå. His house was a bit smaller than the others which means that he wanted to be humble.

The house of Min Yeonghwi, the distant relative of empress Myeongseong, was one of the biggest houses in Seoul. It showed how much their families were rich. Inside the sarangchae of it I could see the Bamboo wife which is also called as Jukbuin. Men used to cool their body while sleeping by hugging it in summer. The other two hanoks were the house of Yoon Taekyeong and his brother, Yoon deok yeong. Yoon Taekyeong was the fater in law of king Sunjong. His house had an unique shape because it was shaped like the chinese character êª and the sarangchae and anchae was connected together facing back. Another special thing about his house was that it had its own shrine inside. The shrine was built before the other buildings were built and people served ancestors of four generations there.

Same as the houses that I saw yesterday in Unhyeongung the hanoks in Namsan Hanok Village had the traditional heating system, Ondol. I could see the fire hole inside and outside the building and the chimney too. The houses also had Jangdokdae. Jangdok is a pot which was used to contain some food like soy bean sauce, pepper paste, and kimchi. It had a function to ferment the food. Since it was made up by special kind of clay people say that Jangdok can breathe.

It was the first time for me to visit Namsan Hanok Village and I guess I had a great experience. It was good to learn more about our traditional house, hanok.
