Today I went to Seoul Museum of History and learned lots of things. And I would want to talk about it, especially about many villages in Hanyang. But to introduce about villages in Hanyang, I would want to briefly talk about Hanyang first. In 1394, King Taejo chose Hanyang as the new capital. The reason was because of Korean traditions, Feng shui, and Confucianism. Also Hanyang was the center of politics, economy, and culture. Now I will talk about many villages in Hanyang. There are three villages in Hanyang, generally. Bukchon, Jungcheon, and Namchon. Bukchon was called as the affluent neighborhood. It has been a traditional residential district for 600 years and is located between Gyeongbokgung to the west and Changdeokgung to the east. Also it was able to overlook Chunggyecheon to the south. Accordance to Feng shui, royal families and hihgh level officials lived here. Next, Jungcheon is also called as Community of Technical Specialist. In Jungcheon also a middle neighborhood, was the strip between Jongno and Cheoggyecheon today. Residents like merchants, translator-interpreters, doctors, legal officers, minor officials and clerks who worked for governments usually lived there. Lastly, there is Namchon which is also called as the bedrock(foundation) of Hanyang society Namchon was the section of the capital at the foot of Namsan. Poor noblemen who were politically excluded in Namchon lived there. But, few of the powerful noble families lived there too. There were some second houses for powerful noble families to enjoy the nature and the view. I think I really had good time in Seoul Museum of History. I hope you can also visit Seoul Museum and make some good memories or learn lots of things there. |
