Hello everyone it's Liam again!
Today i went to a beautifully designed palace with Mariestory group teacher and members and the palace is called 'Changgyeonggung'. The design of the palace was amazing! I like the design of the Dancheong and that is my favorite because it was so colorful! Dancheong symbolizes the dignity and the great power of the king. Dancheong's 6 colors also has a meaning Tuesday is red and red represents fire, Wednesday is black and black represents water, Thursday is green or blue and green and blue represent tree or wood, Friday is white and white represents metal, finally Saturday is yellow and yellow represents earth. These 6 colors represents the source of the element which makes up the universe.
Changgyeonggung was bured down during the Janpanese Invasion in 1592, but luckly king Gwanghaegun rebuilt it in 1616. The structure of the Changgyeonggung palace is divied into 3 areas. First, outer palace, then the inner palace and finally the back garden. The outer palace was used for the offical work and events. The inner palace was used for the daily life of the royal family. The back garden was used for the royal family's rest.
The main gate of Changgyeonggung is Honghwamun. Hongwamun's design surprized me! The color, design and the entrance was all perfect! I think king Seongjong is a genius planning this gigantic gate! If you past the Honghwamun there is a stone bridge called 'Okcheongyo'. Okcheongyo is between Honghwamun and Myeongjeongjeon. At the side of Okcheongyo there are monsters which is made out of stone. They belived the monsters will protect from the evil spirits coming from the water.Japsang are small figure which is on the roof of every old Korean palaces.People belived Japsang protected the palace from fire and evil spirit. The first figure is a master of Buddhist monk then the second one is a monkey, the third one is a pig and the fourth one is an imaginary water ghost and so on. Finally the last place i will be wrighting about is Myeongjeongjeon. Myeongjeongjeon was the main throne hall of Changgyeonggung palace. In the middle there is 3 path the middle one is for the king the left one is for the civil officers and the right one is for military officers. Also in the Myeongjeongjeon royal weddings and Cilvil service test was helded. From the king's sight it's looks like it's curved silghtly left. The reason is if the assassin shot the king with the bow and arrow he will die so they made the palace path silghtly left.
Today was an awesome day because i went to a palace! I was exicited to goto the Changgyeonggung palace but i was more exicited because i learn about the oldest throne hall in Korea and had a good time with my friends too and the design totally surprized me i thank Mariestory for taking me to this wonderful palace Changgyeonggung and i'm already exicited to goto other palace called 'Gyeongungung' with Mariestorp group members and teacher. Thank you for reading my essay!
