Today, I went to Changgyeonggung which was built by king Seongjong for his mother and grandmother. Even it was built for the good purpose, It contains many sad history. Lady Jang and prince Sado were killed here. Also it was destroyed during the Japanese invasion, and even used as a zoo by Japanese. Now I'll talk about the structure and buildings of Changgyeonggung. Changgyeonggung palace is divided into three parts which is inner palace, outer palace and back garden. There are important buildings or door like Honghwamun, Okcheongyo and Myeongjeongjeon. But I found other things interesting. First, the ranking stone infront of the myeongjeongjeons stands for servant of king's rank. The one that is closest to the king is the highest, farthest equals the lowest. I found it similar to the Sungkyunkwan's sleeping room and even in Joseon,there was something called scoring. The next one is Dancheong. The buildings of the palace were painted in 5 colors which were red standing for fire, black for water, green for trees or woods, white for metal and lastly yellow for soil. The last thing I want to introduce to you is Japsang. When you see the roof, you see some figures about 7 of them. They are the characters from the chinese novel Journey to the west, and people before believed those protect them from fire and bad spirits. I learned that queen was kept inside not able to travel and something even worst is they couldn't even do memorial service for their parents! They might have been so bored! As Changgyeonggung contains numerous stories, I liked it better than other places. Even if it contains good purpose of building , it had too many sad stories, so I felt bitter for Seongjong who had planned very hard for females for their comfort. Changgyeonggung was the place which went through all the tragic and comedy of Joseon's history. As this is containing everything, I felt it more precious than ever. ^^
