Today, I went to a palace called Gyeongungung which is now called Deoksugung. Deoksugung was the private house for king Seongjong's older brother. But after the Japanese invasion in 1592, it became the main palace. There are two kings who lived here, Gwanghaegun(who reigned 1608-1623) and Gojong(who reigned 1863-1907). First, I'll explain about Daehanmun. It is the main gate of Geongungung now after past main gate Inwhamun was burnt in 1904. Second, I'll analyze the main building of Geongungung, Junghwajeon. In the way of getting to Junghwajeon, there is a gate called Jungwamun and rank stones. Also there is Irwolobongbyeong in Junghwajeon. At this place (Junghwajeon) people did coronations, royal weddings and met foreign envoys too. There were 3 things indicating Emperor. First one is in color which is gold. Because the gold is very rare material and most expensive thing, it is considered color of the Emperor. The second is dragon and you can see it everywhere in Jungwhamun. And the last thing is Demu which is some sort of pot and has text, ten thousand. It meant Emperor should live this long. And I will explain the other places rather than Jungwhamun. There are Jeukjodang and Junmyeongdang. Jeukjodang was the place where Gwanghaegun and Injo became king because it was after the Japanese Invasion so Jungwhajeon was destroyed. in the other hand Junmyeongdang was the place for king Gojong for work. Not only Korean style buildings were there , but also western ones. The examples would be Deokhonjeon, Seokjojeon and Jeonggwaggheon. I liked this palace more than Changgeonggung.Because Changgeonggung had only Korean style. I was proud for the first time today of our archtecture. And I was surprised at how delicate the building was because it was only coloring Joseon Dynasty but they built it more beautiful than today's architecture. So I'm proud of this and looking forward to explaining and showing it to the foreigners.
