Did you know that Gyeongungung and Deoksugung were actually same places? Japan changed the name Gyeongungung to Deoksugung. Imagine that you are introducing about Deoksugung to someone. You should talk about Junghwajoun, Seokadang, and Seokjojeon. I'll explain about these to you.
First, Junghwajoun is the largest throne hall located in the middle. Many events were held in here. The King's throne is here and the folding screen is behind it. Two dragons are on the ceiling of the Junghwajoun. This represents the King's power or dignity. When I saw that the color of the building was gold diffferent from the other ones, I got to know that it was the main place.
Next, Seokadang was the single two story building. King Seongjong fleeded to here after the Imjin war to be safe. One of the sad story that happened here was, Queen Inmok was locked by Gwanghaegun and passed away before revenge. I don't like how these sad stories are mixed in this building.
Lastly, Seokjojeon was a three story building. The first floor is called the basement. The cooks made foods here in the kitchen. The second floor was a banquet hall. Many ceremonies were held here. The third floor was where the royal family slept. I wanted to go inside but unfortunately we had to pay money and didn't get to change to see inside today.
In conclusion, I hope you got to know more about Deoksugung/ Gyeongungung because I did. Now when you meet a person who doesn't know much, I bet you can explain about it!
