Chang-Deok Palace is an eastern palace. The palace was started in 1405 and it was built for King Tae-Jong.
I learned that there was a nine ton bell hung on the second floor of Don-Hwa-Mun along with a drum. The drum was struck 33times at 4am, it meant that the people were free to go aroung the city. At 10pm, the bell was rung 28times, which meant a peaceful night.
There are three Chinese scholar trees planted in the palace. They symbolized the Three-to officials who worked under the trees. the Three-top-officials were 여의정, 좌의정,and 우의정. It was also believed that these trees protected the palace from evil spirits.
In-jeong-jeon was the main hall where formal events like coronations were held. The king also recieved foreign visitors there.
Seon-jeong-jeon is the place where there is only a more expensive blue tile roof. this is where the king did most of his daily work.Imortant events like funerals were also held there as well.
Hui-jeong-dang and Dae-jo-jeon are the king and queen's sleeping chamber. The king did some of his work there too. Seon-jo-jeon was the queen's residence and it had to be beautiful because the queen could never leave it. Therefore, it was more important than the king's residence. |
