I went to Chang-deok Palace that was one of the eastern palace. I learned many things about the palace. I want to tell you one of the things. It was Don-hwa mun that interested me. It was built in 1412 by King Tae-jong. It is a main gate of Chang-deok Palace. The meaning of the name is 도탑게 in Korean. It is two story building. Onthe second floor there were a huge and large bell and drum. The bell is nine tons. At 4 a.m the drum was struck 33 times. That meant people could go around the city. At 10 p.m the bell rang 28 times and people could have peaceful night. |
