Today, I went to Changgyeong Palace. There was many interesting things there. Changgyeong Palace was built by King Sejong and King Seongjong extended the Changgyeong Palace later. I was interested in the Dancheong which is the Korean-sylished and colorful decoration used on the buildings. During the Joseon Dynasty, the Buddist Temple and the palace were painted in Dancheong. Also, Dancheong symbolized the dignity and the power of the King. Red meant fire, Black meant water, Green meant trees and wood,White meant metal and last of all, Yellow meant Earth. I was also interested in the Japsang. Japsang were the small figures on top of the buildings. The first was the Buddist Monk, the second was a Monkey and the third was the pig. Last of all, I was interested in the sad history of Changgyeong Palace. Crown Prince Sado's father Yeong-Jo, was very weak and he one day called his son to rule his country instead of him. At that time, there were two powers called Noron and Soron. Sado was smart. However, he had supported only one power. So, the other power got jealous and they came to Yeong-Jo and said bad words about him. So Yeong-Jo scowled him and Sado got stress. So he went out of the Palace at hight. Yeong-Jo told himn to commit suicide. But he refused, and he ordered to put Sado in the rece chest. At last, Sado died. Thank you for listening to my speech. |
