Today, I learned about palaces of Joseon Dynasty; 경복, 경희, 창경, 창덕, and 경운, also called 덕수.
There three parts of the palace; the outer halls, the inner halls, and the back garden. The outer halls were an area where the king worked and held official ceremonies. There were buildings like 근정전, 사정전, and 수정전. The inner halls was an area where the royal family lived. 강녕전, 교태전, 자경전, and 경희루 can also included in the inner halls’ building.
There was an imaginary animal called 해치 or 해태 which people believed it could tell right from wrong. It looks like a lion and has a scary face and teeth. People placed it in front of the palace because they wanted the king to make right decisions.
Also, there is a folding screen behind the kings’ throne. The king would always sit in front of this folding screen. The people even buried it with the king when he died. The sun represents the king and the moon represents the queen. Like this, I learned a lot of things on my first day of 반기문 class. I think what I learned will be useful someday. |
