Today, I went to the Namsan Hanok Village. I was interested in many things. Especially I was interested in the Jang-deok-dae. Jang-deok was a pot made out of special materials. It was used to store ferment food such as Kimchi, Soy bean, etc.
The Jang-deok-dae was made so that no dirt and water could go into the pot. However, fresh air can only come in. People used to put ferment food in the Jang-deok and dig a hole in the ground, and put the pot in the hole. Then, they covered the hole entire pot with dirt. In the summer, the food in the Jang-deok was cool because the underground's temperature was lower than the Earth's surface. In the winter, the food becomes warmer because the temperature in the underground was higher than the Earth's surface.
I thought that the Jang-deok was thankful because the Joseon people could eat ferment food for a long time. I want to come back to Namsan Hanok Village once again. Thank you for listening to my speech! |
