It was my first visit to Changgyeonggung. I heard many special things about this palace before I went here so my expectation was really high. When I first saw the gate called 홍화문 it was understandable why people call it "splendid". Changgyeonggung can be divided into two parts. The outerhalls and the innerhalls. However we concentrated more on the outerhalls. In the outerhalls we could see 명정전 the place where the official ceremonies were held. In the yard of 명정전 there were ranking stones which shows the position of the servants. 정1품 is the highest position and it is the nearest place from the king. On the other hand 정9품 is far from the king and the position is very low.
Turning right there was 문정전. This can be referred to king's office. The king controled his country and governed his country in here. However there is a sad memory in the yard of this pavilion. 사도세자 died in the rice chest in this yard because of the fight of political parties.
I had a nice time in Changgyeonggung. The palace was really beautiful and also there were some tracks of western culture. Because of some western-cultured views this palace was special. It is good to see those beautiful pavilions but it is also important to remember the disgrace we had in the past. |
