Hello, my name is Chloe. Today in 반기문 class, I learned about one of the palaces in Joseon, which is Gyeongbokgung. Among the different topics, I got interested in various paintings and decorations in there. In 근정전, there is a painting called 일월오봉병 behind the king's chair. Each natural meterials stands for different people, such as the king, queen, and the officers. Even though there were other countries that had a king at that time, 일월오봉병 was a special painting that only Joseon had. There is also another kind of decoration in Gyeongbokgung, which is 십장생도. You can find this painting easily on the wall of the palace. The things painted on the wall, which includes rocks, cloudes, and turtles, are belived to symbolize long life. It was very fun to listen to stories about old palaces and our history. I am looking forward to attending the second class next week. |
