Today, I went to Seodaemun Prison History Hall. In 1910, Korea lost its independence. There were many patriots including Yu Kwan - Sun. She is a famous female freedom - fighter. She was a student at Ehwa Women's School untill Japanese Government ordered to close all the schools. She was tortured a lot, so she died in the prison in the age of 18.
Japanese built the prison next to the Independence Gate because they didn't want Koreans to think about independence. A lot of people shouted Dae-han-min-guk-man-se(Long Live Korea).
However, Koreans didn't give up even if patriots died in the prison. They made a provisional government in Shanghai,China.
Korea finally won back its indepeddence in 1945 from Japanese imperialists.
Resistance Room displays the historical background of Seo-dae-mun prison. There is a screen that shows the Kang, woo-kyu's bombing at the Japanese governor-general building. Torture Room tells us Japanese tortured Korean patriots such as fingernail torture, hot spicywater torture etc.. The basement prison was known as Yu Kwan - Sun's cave. This Prison was built to put female freedom-fighters.
Prison Buildings are the prison cells where our patriots were locked up. Rooms here are dark and damp
with no toilets. Many patriots died of hunger and diseases. Where execution were carried out is the Execution Building. There's a chair and think rope for hanging.
Nest to this building, there is a secret tunnel for carrying dead bodies. It reminds me that Japanses are
very murderous and cruel.
Korean national flag is Tae-guek-gi. It's known that King Gojong drew it. There are each special meanings
in the flag.
The national flower of our country is the Mugungwha(Rose of Sharon). The flower blooms everywhere in
the country and lasts longer than other flowers. It also symbolizes patience and endurance.
Korea's national anthem is called Ae-guk-ga, which means "Song of Love for the Country". We're not
sure who worte the lyrices. What I saw was amazing. We all should preserve Korea forever! |
