Seodaemun Prison History Hall

Have you ever been to the Seodaemun Prison History Hall and thought about the freedom fighters and patriots there? I went to the Seodaemun Prison History Hall. It was a very terrible place. It was the place where Japan imprisoned many patriots. Japan ruled Korea for 36 years. I learned two important things. They are first, the freedom fighter Yu Kwan Sun and second, The Tae-guk-gi.

First, I learned about many patriots there. Especially, Yu Kwan Sun was a famous freedom fighter. In 1919, she was a student at Ehwa Women's University. She returned to her hometown because the Japanese government ordered to close all the school in Korea. She decided to do an independence movement on March 1st. It was enacted at the A-woo-nae Marketplace. She was arrested and was imprisoned in the Seodaemun Prison. She continued to protest for the independence of Korea. The Japanese did many tortures on her so she died in 1920, at the age of 18. I really respect Yu Kwan Sun. I can't believe that she gave up her live for Korea in spite of the force of Japanese.

Second, I learned about the Tae-guk-gi. Tae-guk-gi is the national flag of Korea. It is known that it was drawn at King Gojong's dynasty. It has many meanings. The circle in the center is divided into two parts, red and blue. It represents the harmony of two opposite forces (yin and yang theory). The lines at each corner represent the four universal elements. Geon means heaven, spring, east, and hummanity. Gon means earth, summer, west, and righteousness. Ri means sun, fall, south, and manners. Gam means moon, winter, north, and wisdom. I like my country's national flag.

I will learn about our country, Korea more. I think that the Seodaemun Prison History Hall was a horrible place that time but now, it is a very good place to learn history about Japanese ruling era.
