Hello, my name is Jee Hwan Ryoo.
Today, I visited Namsan hanok village, and I would like to tell you two of our ancestors cleverness, ondol(heating system) and the lacker liquid.
First, the ondol is used for two things, for cooking and heating the room.
When we burn the woods to cook, the heat goes through the layers of special stone and heats the room by a layer of stone like an S. So, older people slept right on or near the burning woods and the younger people slept far away from the ondol.
Secondly, I would like to talk about the lacker liquid.
I always wondered the whanok is made of wood, so why doesn't it rot?
I got the answer. That is beacuse our ancestors brushed theis lacker liquid so the wood was waterproof, and also didn't rot.
Thank You for your reading. |
