Have you ever went to the Seoul museum of history? Today, I went to the Seoul history museum. I learn about Joseon dynasty¡¯s Seoul, Hanyang. In 1394, king Taejo chose Hangyang as the new capital according Korean traditions, Feng shui theory and Confucianism. Hanyang was the center of politics, economy, and culture. This area was a great place to live, too with fertile soil and beautiful scenery. Then, I would like to talk about donggwol, seogwol, unjongga, and the various villages of Hanyang.

First, donggwol is the name for Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung, the east palaces. Changdeokgung was built in 1405, as a secondary palace. It was used as a main palace after the Imjin war.

Seogwol is the name for Gyeonghuigung the west palaces. It was built in 1623, and served as the secondary palace. It was Jungwongun¡¯s land, but taken by Gwanghaegun because he heard there had great energy. However, Jungwongun¡¯s son Injo became the next king. It is assumed that Gwanghaegun had the inferiority complex because he was the son of king¡¯s concubines, so he wanted to show his powerful royal authority by constructing a huge palace.

Second, Hanyang became bigger as the population continued to grow so Sijeon were at the heart of the city¡¯s trading network. These Sijeon have to got government permission. Middlemen called Yoriggun stood outside with a conspicuous dress to introduce customers to the stores, help to sell more goods and got some gain. Unjongga means people gather like some clouds, and scatter like some clouds. I think it means lots of people went to the Unjongga.

Lastly, there were various villages of Hanyang, bukchon, jungchon, and namchon. Bukchon was located between Gyeongbokgung to the west and Changdeokgung to the east. Because of the location, it was the best place to live, therefore, royal families and high level officals lived there.

Jungchon was the strip between Jongno and Cheonggyecheon. Translator- interpreters, doctors, legal officers, and clerks who worked for the government lived there. Like normal people.

In namchon, poor noblemen lived there.

In conclusion, I think low people and normal people cannot go to the higher place even they are smart are unfair because, when we did not discriminated the society class, Joseon can be more develop. Thhank you.
