Wang-gun established Goryeo at 918 AD. He chooe Gae seong(nowday Songak)to a capital. I will tell you about established of Goryeo. At unified shilla period, powerful clans were much stronger than a king. They ruled there own territories and the central government didn't. While Shilla nobles are losing their power, Gung-ye established later Goguryeo and Gyen-hwon established later Baekjae. We call this period, later three kingdoms period. Wan-gun was a general of later Goguryeo. He was rulled by Gung-ye. However, Wang gun pushed Gung ye and becam a king. He changed the country name to Go ryeo and Goryeo was established. At this time, later Baekjae was the strongest country of the three. But, there power got weaker and weaker because of continuos battle. Shilla give the country to Goryeo and later Baekjae failed so Wang gun could unified Shilla and Baekjae. |
