Today, I went to the Korea University Museum. I’m going to talk about 3 things I learned about. The first thing is the King’s clothing. The second is the King’s schedule, and the last thing is about court servants.
For the King’s normal clothing, he wears the 평상복. He wears the 곤룡포and an 익선관 on his head. The 곤룡포 is red, with five dragons on the middle circle in the front. For other clothes, there are 면복, 조복and 군복. But I will only talk about 면복and 자복. First, the uses of 면복and 조복are for ceremonies, and for meeting officials. When the king wears the 면복, he wears the 구장복and 면류관, to attend the ceremonies. For meeting officials, he wears the 강사포and 원유관.
The schedule for the king follows like this: After waking up, he eats, and then does the 경연, (the study of the political history of Joseon and China) he meets the officials, has his lunch, studies again or exercises. Then, he had his dinner, and spent his time with his family.
The court ladies called 궁녀 usually came to the palace at an early age, and could not get out of the palace until she died. The next highest position is the 상궁, who received salaries from the king. The 상궁’s work was to give work to do to the 궁녀. The 내시 was the court attendant, who could marry and live in the palace. They also became the King’s friends. I think it was fun to learn about the king’s schedule, and about white porcelains, and celadon at the Korea University Museum . |
