Today, I went to the Seoul Museum of History. There I learned a lot about Seoul.

King Taejo founded the Joseon Dynasty in 1392. He moved the capital from Gaegyeoung to Hanyang. King Teajo chose Hanyang for the capital because of its beautiful nature and centeral location. Hanyang is the modern day Seoul. But this is not all true. It is only the north part of Seoul. Hanyang is surrounded by a fortress wall and mountains. The north mountain is called Bukhansan and the south mountain is called Namsan. The fortress wall surrounding Hanyang has many gates. There are 4 main gates and small gates. The 4 main gates are 흥인지문(east), 돈의문(west), 숭례문(south), and 숙정문(north). But why is there only 4 main gates? Why not 20 or 30 gates? This is because building even one main gate is expensive. Also, it would be harder to control all 20 or 30 gates. They would have to divide the soilders into many groups.

It was very fun learning about Seoul's history in the Seoul Museum of History. I earned a lot of information. I never knew Seoul had a deep history as this. I really enjoyed my visit to the Seoul Museum of History.
