Seodaemun Prison History Hall

Today I went to ‘Seodaemun Prison History Hall’. While I was going there, I saw Independence Gate which was built in 1896. At that time, our country was poor, so people donated money to build Independence Gate.

Seodaemun Prison was built in 1908 by Japanese. Because Japan wanted Koreans to stop thinking about independence, they built it to capture freedom-fighters of Korea.

The result of this all happenings made Koreans to be angry, so people started resistance demonstrations in the March 1st. 33 leaders declared Korea’s independence, and shouted “Dahanmingook Manse”. Which meant Long live Korea.

Of course, Japanese did not liked this. They arrested our freedom-fighter and tortured them using water, red pepper, and more cruel tools. However, our patriots did not stop to resist. Instead, they resisted more than before. After all, Korea got independence in 1945.

Before I went to Swodaemun Prison history hall, I thought that it’s not that admirable thing. However, I have know that Koreans can be standing here because of the patriots. I’ve gotten thankful by looking at their spirits. If I were them, I could not do it. Thanks our patriots!
