museum. I learned about the history of Korean wars.
One of it is the Hwa-rangs. The Hwa-rang were an elite group of
young men in the Sil-la Kingdom. They were sons of royal families
or noblemen. They usually studied and practiced about martial arts.
They also had five rules.
1. Loyalty to the country.
2.Trust among friends.
3. Be good to your parents.
4. Never retreat in battles.
5. Don't kill anything without reason.
These rules helped me know that the Hwa-rangs had to be very
cautious of what they were doing.
The next thing I learned was about the Sal-su River Battle. The Sal-su River Battle was a battle that can be won by our general's great strategy. As you will all know, the leader of the battle was Euljimundeok. The battle was against Goguryeo to Sui China. Euljimundeok did not fight hard with Sui on purpose. He made the Sui army tired and exhausted. The Sui army ran out of food and decided to retreat. They reached the Sal-su River. To go back to their country, they had to cross the river. It looked shallow, so they decided to cross the river. They were half way crossing the river, when Euljimundeok opened the dam. Most drowned and only 2,700 soldiers survived out of 300,000. Isn't it amazing?
Third, Admiral Lee and the Turtle-ship. Everyone will know about this story, about Yi Sun shin winning the battle by the turtle ship. The turtle ship which is usually called Geo-buk-seon in Korea, had a special secret that could win the game. First of all, it had spears on the top so the Japanese navy won't climb on. Second, it was ironclad so it was hard to attack. And the third one, the most biggest part, is that the trees that was used to make the turtle ship which is the pine trees, were stronger than the trees that the Japan ships were made of. This was one of the brilliant ideas of Yi Sun-shin.
Lastly, the Smoke Signal Station. The Joeseon people used the somke signals, usually called the Bong-su, for long distance communication.
It looked like a large chimney. When a soldier saw an enemy attacking, h set a fire on the bong-su. It was a goodidea to use smokes for communications. Since there were neither walkie-talkies nor phones, using smoke was a easy way to communicate.
Of course, There are much more brilliant and amazing ideas and strategies of our ancestors and generals. Above are the few ones that
I chose to write. After I went to the museaum, I thought that we had to respect our ancestors(and generals) of their great ideas and strategies. More than just fighting like the others, they used their brain to win the fight! I was very amazed after I knew about this. We had less soldiers than the other countries, such as, Japan, China, and Mongol. Those countries' soldier were countless compared to Korea. But! The reason
we could win the battle(almost all) was because of the teamwork between our nation. Not only that, our nation had enough courage to defeat other countries. We also had wisdom, how to defeat these countries.
Don't you think that these reasons above are the secret keys to defeat other countries? If you go to the 'War Memorial of Korea' you can experience every single details about the secret keys. Don't you want to know their secrets? It's a place that you won't be disappointed.
