In the time of the colonization of Japanese, there were so many people who perished because of the resistance demonstration. The leader was an 18 year old girl, commonly known as Yu Kwan Sun. There were 33 freedom fighters during the March 1st movement. To imprison people who resisted the Japanese government, they needed a big prison. The biggest prison was Seodaemum prison at that time.

  The gate of Seodaemun prison is the Independence Gate. It was made to make prisoners hopeless in the prison. In addition, it is a symbol of independence from foreign powers. It was modeled after the 'Arch of Triumph' in Paris.

  After looking around the prison history room, we went underground, which is the basement torture rrom. There were more than three kinds of tortures Japanese have done to Koreans. It was an actual room where real atrocities occured. Also, I saw the prison buildings. The rooms had not toilets, and many people died from hunger and disease here.

  I felt sorry to our ancestors, even our great-grand parents. I can now know the situation in the past. I hope there would be no colonizations in the future.
