Today I went to Gyeongbokgung. It is very big. It is the main palace amongst the five. In Gyeong bok gung, there is Gyo tae jeon, Gang neong jeon, Sa jung jeon, Gyeong hui ru and lastly, Hyang won jung.
Gyeong bok means 'Because of the king's wise ruling and gracefulness, all the people in his country shall live well. And also, there is inner part, outer part and the resting and hosting place in Gyeong bok gung. Inner part is living quarter for the royal family. Outer part is a sort of office, and resting and hosting area is for enjoying and entertainment or rest.
Inner part
First, there is Gyo tae jeon. It is the living quarter for the queen. It is located in the middle of the palace. There is also a room for the baby, called Gun chun gak. It is very big, and it is bigger than Gang neong jeon. Second, there is Gang neong jeon. It is the king's living quarter. There is no dragon ridge on the roof because dragon is the symbol of the king and the king actually stayed there.
Outer part
Geon jung jeon is for big and official crermony. Or it was used when an envoy came from another country. Next is Sa jung jeon. The king discussed political affairs with officers in here. But there was no ondol, so Cheon chu jeon and Man chu jeon was built to use in winter.
Restig and hosting place
Gyeong hui ru was built for parties and to enjoy and entertaintment or rest. It has 48 pillars, and it is very big. Hyang won jeong is a private area. There is square pond meaning heaven, and round ground meaning earth.
When I went here, I was surprised. It was so big and well built! I wondered how our ancestors built such a great and big buildings when technology is not good. It was a pleasurable visit.
