Hello, my name is Jennifer and today, i went to Changgyeonggung palace that King Seongjong built for his mother and grandmother. it burned down because of Japenese invasion in 1592 but rebuilt in 1616 by Gwanghaegun. Therefore, I would like to introduce you about most interesting 3 things, sad story about Sado, Okcheongyo, and Dancheong.
First, before I introduce about Crown prince Sado's sad story detaily, who is sado? He is a son of King yeongjo and son of concubine. Also, he do not like to study that his father want but King Yeongjo very love Sado because he is a very late son for him. But why he kill Sado? That time, there are 2 factions, noron and soron. Yeongjo is noron but Sado is Soron. Noron afraid that when Sado became a king, there power is gone so, they tell bad things about Sado to Yeongjo. finally, he kill him by put him in a rice chest for 8 days. When i learn this story, I thought, it was so tragic happen because he died innocently and he is smart so he could develop Joseon when he did not die so early.
Second, every palace had a stone bridge between the main gate and the throne hall. So, Changgyeonggung palace had it, too and that bridge name is Okcheongyo. It connected common land and throne hall. Also, there is monster between arches and people believe this protect them from the bad spirits from water. They believe when they clean their mind, they could meet king. I think joeson people give meaning for everything but it is good because they try to keep that symbol.
Lastly, dancheong is traditional decoration, and there are 5 basic colors, black blue, green, yellow, red, and white. Dancheong only used in temple, or palaces so it means dancheong used for represent their class by pattern and colors, decoration, and protect palace or temple from rain and snow.
In conclusion, I thought dancheong is the most interesting thing I learn today because it is beautiful and protect building from the weather, too. Also, it is so hot but i want to go changgyeonggun again because I want to see palaces again. Thank you for reading
