Today, I went to Changgyeonggung palace. King Seongjong built Changgyeonggung palace for his mother and grandmother. This palace was burned down during the Japanese invasion of 1592 and was rebuilt in 1616 by King Gwanghaegun.
Changgyeonggung palace has some sad stories. First, lady Jang, the mother of King Gyeongjong was killed here. Second, Crown Prince Sado, the father of King Jeonjo was put to death in a rice chest. Finally, Japan changed it into zoo, but it restored in 1984.
Honghwamun is the main gate of Changgyeonggung. It is really splendid and only one eastwards main gate. It is the nation's treasure and still is just as it was when King Gwanghaegun rebuilt it in 1616.
Myeongjeongjeon was the throne hall. It was the place for official events. Here were held the civil Service Exams, civil and Military Officials Reviews, National Anniversary Celabrations, conorations, royal weddings, envoy receptions and so on.
Gyeongchunjeon was built for queens, queen mohers and kings concubines.
Hwangyeongjeon was used as king's living quaters which is part of the inner palace.
Sungmundang was a place for academic discussions.
Next, I will tell you about Dancheong. Dancheong is the colorful Korean-Style decorations that are used on buildings.
Red represents fire, Black represents water, Green or blue represents tree or wood, White represents metal and Yellow represents earth.
It was good experience to go to Changyeongung. If I have time, I would try to go to Back Garden.
