Today I went to ChangGyeongGung Palace(창경궁). The person who made this palace was King Seongjong(성종). He built for his mother and his grandmother. King Seongjong is the king who made KyungKookDaeJun(경국대전). This palace was burned during the Japanese Invasion and in 1616 King Gwanghaegun(광해군) rebuilt it. There are 3 bad stories that is related to this palace. First, Lady Jang(장희빈) was killed here by poison. Second, Crown Prince Sado was put to death in the rice chest. At last, Japan changed it to a zoo. However, it was restored in 1984.
Now on, I will tell you how this palace looks. We can divide this palace in to two sets. The outer palace and the inner palace. The outer palace was for official works and events. There are Myeongjeongjeon(명정전), Munjeongjeon(문정전), and Sungmundang(숭문당). The inner palace was used for daily life of the royal family. There is Hwangyeongjeon(환경전) where the king lives. Also, There are Yanghwadang(양화당), Tongmyeongjeon(통명전), and Gyeongchunjeon(경춘전).
The main gate of Changgyeonggung is Honghwamun(홍화문). When we pass through that gate, there’s a bridge called Okcheongyo(옥천교). There’s a brige because people thought if we pass through the flowing water, our spirits get clean and can see the king.
If we see the roof, there are Japsang. Japsang comes from a story called “Journey to the West”. The first one is a master of Buddhist monk, the second one is a monkey, the third is a pig, and the fourth is an imaginary water ghost.
Also, Dancheong is Korean-styled decoration used on buildings. Yellow represents earth, green or blue represents tree or wood. White represents metal and black represents water. At last, red represents fire.
Next time, If I have spare time, I want to go to the Back Garden because I think Back Garen is beautiful.
This is the end of my presentation and thank you for listening!~ |
