Today I went to Gyeongungung Palace. Many people know Gyeongungung Palace as Duksugung Palace. I feel angry about this. 'Duksugung' is a name that japanese changed but the actual name is 'Gyeongungung Place.' Gyeongungung Palace is the first palace to bring in western-styled building. It became the main building after Sunjoe escaped to Gyeongungung Palace during the Imjin-war in 1593. Daehanmun is the main gate.The original main gate is In Hwa Mun but because the roads around was narrow, it was changed to Daehanmun.Next, you pass the Kuemcheonggyo(금천교)and then Junghwamun(중화문).Junghwamun is in the middle. It has the picture Ilwalloacbyeongpung(일월오악병풍) in it.Next to it comes the most important building of Gyeongungung...Junghwajeon(중화전)that was for the official events. Next to it is Sukudang.It is the only 2-story building and Queen Inbee was locked here. Then comes the Jeukjodang(즉조당).It is where King Gwanghegun(광해군)and Injo(인조) came to the throne. Followed by junmeyoungdan(준명당)where they serve the foriegn ministers, come the Hamnyeongjun(함녕전)that was used as the king's sleeping place.Then comes Dukjojeon, Seokjojun and the jeonggwanhyeon. |
