Today I went to Namsan Hanok Village.

I saw Korean traditional houses ( Hanok ) in various shapes. First, I learned that Hanok could be divided into tilled roof house and thatched roof house. Mostly in Hanok Village there are tiled roof houses where noblemen and high-class people lived.

I thought that separating people into groups were unequal because we all have same opportunity and chance. I also learned tiled roof house was divided into Srangchae where Private library and man¡¯s quarter is , or Anchae and Haengnangchae where women and servant lived. In Joseon dynasty, most of the houses were divided into many parts because noblemen were influenced by Confucian.

In these kind of tiled roof houses ( where noblemen lived ) there are many places that help us understand our ancestor¡¯s normal life.

For example, there is  which is a pottery made out of special kind of clay so water and dirt cannot come inside. It only allows air so Jangdokdae could have a good Fermentation.

It could contain soybean source, pepper paste , soybean paste and so on.

Or for another example, there is a family shrine where our ancestors used to serve their ancestors of four generations. The family came here every morning to pay their respect.

By these two examples, we could learn that our ancestors used to pay their respect to their ancestors and also we could learn that they used to have good function of science and knowledge about fermentation and ventilation etc.

After visiting Namsan Hanok Village I could understand the life of our  ancestors. I also learned that our ancestors had a unique theme while living. ( such as Dangcheong which is a Korean style painting theme , Gangdokdae and the family shrine. ) I wish I could visit this wonderful place sometimes and pay attention to cool designs and exclusive houses again.
