I learned about the Joseon Dynasty's capital city Hanyang and
additional information about it on this trip. On the year 1394 Hanyang was
chosen to be the new capital of the Joseon Dynasty through the Feng Shui
Geomancy system for good luck. Based on the reports of Hanyang¡¯s population in
the 1426 there were about 109,375 people living a Hanyang. But as time went up
and people started moving into the capital, so the population rose to about 200,000
people. The street of six ministries, contained compounds
of several government offices and officials that were on east and west sides. There were
many fights in these offices, and these were called bungdang fights this caused
Joseon to lose the first part of the Imjin war because the east office has told
king sunjo that no war will happen between Japan and Joseon. This later led
to Tangpyeongchaek that Yeongjo creates later. On the right and left side of
yunjongga street there were six large stores that sold the best items in Joseon
that even kings and royal family members bought from. The people that introduce
customers to these stores are called yeoriggun. I also learned about the Bongsudae
which was a way to tell the arrival of enemies or fights with enemies.
1 lighted: no suspicious
activities
2 lighted: the enemy has
been spotted
3 lighted: the enemy is near
the border
4 lighted: the enemy has
crossed the boarder
5 lighted: fighting has
begun
The last thing that we
learned about is the Hanyang wall. This wall was first built after the ancestral
shrine, the altar for the gods of soil and grain, and the main palace. Then
came the four main doors of Hanyang with it¡¯s walls. The original wall was formed by
king Taejo. Then Sejong, and Sukjong repaired the walls, after being collapsed down during the Second Manchu invasion of Korea in 1636. So it is very important in Korean history.
I learned so many interesting facts on this trip it was really fun.
