Gyeongbokgung palace was the main and largest palace among them. It was also the first palace of the Joseon Dynasty.
Changdeokgung palace has mostly kept its original design among the five palaces in seoul. King Taejong started building the palace in 1405 and it was the longest residence lived in by Joseon kings for 505 years.
Kyeonghegung's main gate is Hong-Hwa Mun.
Changgyeonggung palace was built by King Seongjong for his mother and grandmother. This palace was burned down during the Japanese Invasion of 1592 and was rebuilt in 1616 by King Gwanghae.
Gyeongungung was the private house of the older brother of King Seongjong. In the late 16th century, Joseon had a Japanese Invasion and all palaces were burned to ashes so King Seonjo decided to use the best remanning royal house as a temporary home. |
