I haven't been to Changdeokgung before, so I had much expectance going there. Changdeokgung was built in 1405 by King Taejong. However, because of the Japanese invasion, Changdeokgung destroyed in 1592. After the rebuilt, it became the king's main residence for about 300 years. With my class, I went inside to the Injeongjeon. But it was hard to walk up the stairs, because the stairs' height was too high. I asked the teacher why, and she answered that is because the nobleman had to walk gently, instead of running. If the stairs' height is low, noblemen would walk faster and run, so the architecture made the stairs very high. The Seongjeonggak area was the main palace for the prince Hyomyeong, who is the son of Sunjo. It is a hexagonal pavilion which was really interesting for me. My favorite place in Changdeokgung is Seonjeogjeon, because it was so pretty being surrounded with pine trees. On the other hand, the secret garden was the worst place for me, because actually its real name is back garden, but because of Japanese, it changed. Changdeokgung was great so I can understand why it is UNESCO world heritage. Thank you. |
