There are five palaces in Seoul. And each five palaces has their own specific features. Today, I visited Changgyeonggung palace. I have been Gyeongbokgung palace so much, but I haven't been Changgyeong gung palace. So, I was so excited.
Changgyeong palace has some sad stories. First, Lady Jang who is the mother of the King GyeongJong was killed here by King SukJong. Because Lady Jang(장희빈) did a curse to queen Inhyun to be queen. Second, crown prince Sado(사도세자) who is the father of the king Jeongjo was put it in the death in the rice chest. The reason is the group of politician who are against the crown prince Sado were cheating to King Yeongjo about the bad thing of the crown prince Sado. Finally, Japan changed it into the zoo but it restored in 1984. Although zoo was removed, green house which was built when zoo was made didn't destroy. Green house is European style, so it is very beautiful.
Honghwamun(홍화문), the main gate of Changgyeonggung palace is really splendid and only eastwards maingate. Also, it is the nation's treasure. It means to become healthy. Honghwamun gate is little different with other main gate, because in Josen dynasty, the king who live in the palace want to listen to the people around the Joseon, so when king has some problem about the politic, king go outside the Honghwamun and discuss with the people. Like this, Honghwamun connected the king and the ordinary people.
Through the main gate, for going to the throne hall, we should pass the stone bridge. People think they could meet kng after cleaning up their mind by flowing the water called Geumcheon. There are carvings of the monster between the arches, that are believed to protect the palace from evil spirits.
Changgyeonggung palace has two part, outer palace and inner palace. Outer palace is for working and inner palace is for kings and royal families.
Myeongjeongjeon(명정전) which is the throne hall was the place for official works and events. There were held some royal celebration. And Gyeongchoonjeon(경춘전)was built for queens, queen mothers and kings' concubines. Here were born King Jeongjo and Heongjong. The pavilion, Haminjeong(함인정) is the place where was held the Civil Service Examination(과거 시험). Near the Haminjeong, there are Tongmyeongjeon(통명전) which is the place for queens. Here are many queens' love story. The example of these is Lady Jang and queen Inhyeon.
Changgyeonggung palace has many sad aspects even though its surface side is beautiful. I am sure that If my liffle brother hear my story in Changgyeonggung palace, he will like. Many people don't exactly know about Changgyeonggung and I was too. So, it was chance to know Changgyeonggung well.
