ChangGyeongGung(창경궁) was such a great palace. Honghwamun(홍화문), which is the main gate of ChangGyeongGung, was very splendid. When we go through Honghwamun, we can see Okcheongyo(옥천교) with a monster's face. Those monster carvings protect the palace from evil spirits. Myeongjeongjeon(명정전) is the Throne Hall of ChangGyeongGung. It has five common things with Geunjeongjeon(근정전); ranking stone, phoneix, Dancheong, Japsang and De-me(드므). There were 24 ranking stones; 12 on left, 12 on right. Dancheong is the colorful Korean-styled decorations which are used in buildings. Japsang are the small figures, and they had a great power that can protect the building from fire. De-me is kind of a basket which we can put water in it. People used the water for extinguish fire. Also, bad spirits looked De-me and ran away, because they were surprised looking at their ugly faces. Finally, Crown prince Sado and Lady Jang also died here. ChangGyeongGung was very interesting for me because it had many things to see. Thank you.// |
